ONE-SIDED DIPLOMACY: U.S. VISIT EXPOSES BIAS AGAINST NIGERIA’S MUSLIM COMMUNITIES

The recent visit by the U.S. delegation to Nigeria raises serious questions of fairness, objectivity, and respect for the realities of this nation. By deliberately neglecting the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) — the constitutionally acknowledged apex body representing millions of Muslims — the delegation demonstrated a disturbing disregard for balanced engagement in a multi-faith society. When a group claims to promote peace, cooperation, and inclusiveness, such a one-sided approach instantly destroys credibility.

It is utterly unacceptable that they avoided Muslim communities that have suffered great trauma amid ongoing insecurity. These communities have witnessed mass killings, displacement, and destruction of livelihoods. Yet the delegation conveniently ignored their pain and silenced their voices. What kind of mission for dialogue or justice selectively chooses who deserves to be heard?

The U.S. delegation signalled bias, political preference, or worse — a deliberate narrative engineering. They chose comfort zones over truth, elitism over reality, and propaganda over justice. Nigeria’s diversity cannot be reduced to a single storyline made for diplomatic theatre.

True diplomacy does not fear conversations with those who have been marginalized or wronged. It does not choose sides based on media portrayals or preconceived agendas. If the U.S. delegation came searching for facts, they missed them entirely by failing to meet the people who face daily violence and discrimination simply because of their identity.

Nigeria deserves international partnerships built on respect and fairness — not selective engagement that deepens divisions. If the U.S. wants to be taken seriously as a neutral actor, they must correct this diplomatic blunder. Dialogue must include every pillar of our national community, especially those most affected by insecurity. Anything less is hypocrisy.
